Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
When does Kiwanis meet?
The Kiwanis Club of Sunrise Vista meets every Wednesday at 7:00 AM in the Rancho
Grande Restaurant, 810 Williamston St., Vista
What do you do at meetings?
Members begin arriving at 7:00 AM and socialize as they are eating their hot buffet breakfast. At 7:30 AM, the meetings open with the Kiwanis pledge and singing “God Bless America” or another appropriate patriotic song. Then, the club president begins the meeting by introducing and greeting our guests. Committee announcements about upcoming events and projects are followed by the weekly raffle and "Happy" Dollars. Our weekly speaker is the final portion of the meeting and our meeting concludes by 8:15 AM.
How much does membership cost?
The Kiwanis fiscal year is from October 1 through September 30. Annual dues are $150 and are due by October 1st. This includes Kiwanis International, the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, and local Sunrise Vista Kiwanis fees. New members will be charged on a sliding scale beginning in the second quarter (January). There is a one-time new member initiation fee of $100. There is a fee of $25/month per member for the meeting space.
How do I join Kiwanis?
You’re invited to attend a meeting as a guest of a current member. If you join, that member will be your sponsor. Or you may attend a meeting and meet the fine men and women who make up our Club and learn more about Kiwanis. You will receive a membership brochure and application. Upon completion of the application form, approval of the Board of Directors, and payment of fees, your sponsor will schedule your induction ceremony. It’s a simple, dignified ceremony where you are welcomed to the Kiwanis Club and receive a Kiwanis lapel pin wear. There are no new member rituals or secret handshakes.
What does Kiwanis expect of new members?
We expect you to attend club meetings as regularly as possible and participate in Kiwanis service projects and fundraisers. You are also expected to serve as an active member of at least one committee. We do not require perfect attendance but highly encourage your weekly involvement.
Our promise to you.
How does the club raise funds?
The amount of money we grant to area organizations each year is directly related to the success of our fundraising efforts. Whatever we raise in a given year is distributed on an ongoing basis. Fundraising events include:
